Young people working with PTI are expected to undertake some daytime activity, such as further education, employment, voluntary work and/or vocational training.
PTI provides a range of accommodation options including self contained flats and shared house / flats with individual bedrooms. It is envisaged that placements will last for at least 6 months. A Support Worker will be allocated to work with the young person.
On admission a support plan will be agreed, based on a questionnaire completed by the young person and information provided by the Social Worker to address the following areas for personal development:
Household Management:
Cooking, Cleaning, Washing, Ironing
Basic D.I.Y e.g. Changing a plug
How to read a meter
Shopping for Food and Clothes etc…
What to do in Emergencies e.g. Gas leak
Safety in the Home
Money Management:
Debt management
Budget for their own needs
Open a bank / Building Society Account
Expenditure for Rent, Council Tax, TV License, Insurance (personal and household)
Access To Benefits:
How to find and use the Benefits Agency
Helping to understand their Benefits system
Advised and assist to Claim Benefits and Allowances (Job Seekers / Housing Benefits etc.
Education and Employment:
Help to clarify Job / Education plans for the future
Help to identity relevant Job / Course
Help prepare CV and Write Letters etc…
Help acquire Interviewing Skills
Help develop skills and confidence to male telephone contact with relevant agencies
Leisure:
We advise and assist on the enjoyment of Leisure
Inform on the location of Leisure and Recreational Facilities
Inform and advise on the importance of Exercise in daily life
Culture and Identity:
To assist the young person make relevant Cultural / Religious contact
To assist the young person to have positive Cultural Identity
Sexual Identity and Awareness:
To create a climate of trust enabling the young person to feel comfortable with their sexuality, and if necessary point the young person to agencies where they can obtain relevant information.
Health Care:
Register with GP / Dentist / Optician
Advise and assist on accessing Well Women / Men, Drug, Alcohol Clinics
Advise and assist on the need to maintain a Balanced Diet
Give advice on how to develop good Self Care Skills
Help young people to acquire good Social and Interpersonal Skills
Medical as necessary
